Alvares Stars for Mets in 5-3 Win
|
New York catcher Jose Alvares had a 4-RBI performance, which helped his team down the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-3. Phil Blanchard, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 2-2. The loss has the Pirates at 11-14.
Alvares had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 1-1 slider from Jesus Briones, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Mets a 4-1 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Alvares.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Alvares.
