Both offenses were relatively subdued at PNC Park. Fortunately for the New York Mets, though, Dave Catron was able to deliver in the clutch. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, to lead his team past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-2. The win went to Joe Moses in relief, making him now 2-0. Sam Kelm took the loss for Pittsburgh. Mike Borst locked down his 7th save.
With New York leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Catron hit a sinker from Sam Kelm for a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Mets ahead, 3-0.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Catron told the New York Chronicle.
The win gives New York a record of 12-11.
