The St. Louis Cardinals had to overcome a good performance from Cincinnati pitcher Josh Sadler to claim a 3-2 win at Busch Stadium. Sadler went 7.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. The winning pitcher was 33-year old left-handed pitcher Chris Young. He tossed 90 pitches over 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. The Cardinals, with just their 5th win in 18 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
Jared Collins, who finished 4th in the NL in extra base hits with 81 in 2037, took Cincinnati hurler Josh Sadler deep in the bottom of the fifth. His 3-run home run put the Cardinals on top, 3-1. In all, Collins had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Enjoyed this one," Collins told the St. Louis Chronicle. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
