Marlins Absorb 3-1 Loss at Wrigley Field
|
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 24-year old third baseman Ian Bagshaw, the Chicago Cubs stopped the Miami Marlins, 3-1. Victor Ramos, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Losses have been rare for the Marlins, who are now 9-3.
Chicago right fielder Jon Blackwelder contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a knuckleball to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 12th hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 2-1.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Blackwelder.
