|
Cleveland designated hitter Ronnie Torrez had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Torrez was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2, even as Boston beat the Guardians, 7-5. The winner was Jim Delker in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Eddie Sanchez took the loss. Jamie Robinson sewed up the save, his 2nd.
Boston used the clutch hitting of Mike Perakis to snag the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 6-4. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a crucial one.
"They beat us fair and square," Cleveland skipper Andrew Warner said.
The win gives Boston a record of 3-2.
