Alvares Helps Mets Beat Cardinals, 6-5
In the 6-5 New York win over St. Louis, the impact of Jose Alvares was substantial. Alvares, who is a three-time All-Star, was 3-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Mike Borst collected his 2nd save. The loss drops St. Louis to 1-3.

Alvares had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch fastball from Chris Franke, he banged a run-scoring double to left, giving the Mets a 6-5 lead. It was the 2nd double of the year for Alvares.

"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Alvares told a local reporter after the game.
